Updated Grant Information

Posted: 14/06/2011

Since May 9th The Home Energy Saving scheme has relaunched as part of the Better Energy Homes programme. As a result of this the Grants available have changed.

The grant available for attic Insulation is now €200 and for Cavity Wall Insulation is €320.
Cash Grants are a set value unless the overall cost is below the set value, in which case the actual cost will be reimbursed.
**A Building Energy Rating (BER) is an integral part of all grant applications under the HES scheme, whereby homeowners must undertake a BER on their home after grant aided works have been completed. A homeowner is entitled to BER funding of €80 once per home
Grants are claimed after the measures are completed and the contractor has been paid by the homeowner.

Please note that in order to qualify for any grant you must be making a minimum grant application of €400.  While the grants have been reduced, there are still significant savings to be made on the cost of insulating your home. Please call us on 022 22102 to arrange a complimentary quotation or to read more on the grants available log on to www.seai.ie and go to the Better Energy Homes Link.

Incredible Savings to be made

Posted: 18/04/2011

SEAI approve on average 1,200 applications for grants every week or over 50,000 a year. Roof insulation, which can be completed in less than a day and can cost from €200, will yield a grant of €200, while cavity-wall insulation, which can cost from €350, will yield a grant of €320.  In some cases the cost of insulating your home could be covered almost fully by the grant!

The simple act of insulating your attic could mean your heating bill falling by up to 25%. Lagging the hot water tank saves the average house €2.50 a week – if you live for the next 50 years lagging today will save you €6,500!

More than 1,000 Home Energy Savings grants approved every week - Green Energy, Green Jobs

Posted: 18/10/2010

More than a thousand applications for home energy savings grants are being approved every week and 98.5 percent of the recipients say they would recommend the scheme to others. That was just one of the positive findings of a survey published by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the agency charged with administering the Government's Home Energy Saving (HES) scheme. The survey also revealed that over 68,000 grants had been awarded since the scheme began in April 2009. The SEAI is receiving 500 contacts every day by phone, web or post from the public and contractors.

SEAI's Chief Executive, Professor Owen Lewis, said that another significant finding of the Authority's survey was that 90% of participants had expressed satisfaction with the contractors who carried out their upgrade. "This is evidence that the competitive market is driving good quality, well-priced and well-delivered actions, and may help explain why the scheme's popularity continues to grow", said Professor Lewis.

"There are now over 2,700 registered contractors actively offering upgrades within the HES scheme. All of these are subject to the clear terms of scheme participation including governance, technical expertise and financial probity. Most importantly they are subject to the rigour of SEAI's quality assurance scheme."

Summary of what you need to do when applying for the grant

  • Decide what works you want to do and select your contractor (McHugh Insulation contractor ID 10223).
  • DO NOT PROCEED WITH ANY WORKS BEFORE YOU HAVE GRANT APPROVAL.

  • Select a registered BER assessor to undertake a BER of you home once all the works have been completed. Make sure your BER Assessor completes all sections of the BER confirmations and Request for Payment form supplied to you at the time of offer.
  • Make sure you correctly sign and date all relevant Declarations of Works forms and the BER Confirmation and return them without delay to SEAI to claim your grant payment.

New Consumer Features to be introduced to HES Scheme

Posted: 10/06/2010

On June 8th, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) introduced two new features to the Home Energy Saving (HES) Scheme, designed to further empower consumers, first by guiding them on suitable upgrade works and secondly informing them of the impact of works undertaken.

The smart online Home Energy Self Survey is devised to help homeowners decide which upgrade works might be suitable for their homes. The new survey will be offered to all applicants at the start of the online application process.

At the same time a Building Energy Rating (BER) is to become an intergral part of all grant applications under the HES Scheme, whereby homeowners must undertake a BER to measure the impact of works undertaken. This will give homeowners a thorough and objective assessment of the energy performance of their home following upgrade works, including a BER certificate with a A-G performance rating.

Put a hat on your home!

Posted: 25/05/2010

The benefits of roof/ attic insulation.

You put a hat on your head and keep your body heat in. Thermal insulation in your roof will do the same for your house. If you do not have insulation in your attic, up to 30% of your heat could escape costing you money.

A building which is not insulated is an enormous drain on heat and the heating bills paid on it are essentially moeny down the drain.Even if your attic is already insulated you could consider replacing it or adding too it, to bring it up to the Building Regulations.

Couple this with the Government Grants available to carry out Wall & Attic Insulation and there has never been a better time to insulate your home.

If you have any queries or would like a free quote call our office on 022-22102.

A publication issued by the SEAI in January of this year shows the cost of home heating oil has gone up 22% since the 1st October 2009. This is a significant increase but then you must couple that with the new carbon tax increase which begins on the 1st May 2010 of roughly 6.5% and consumers will notice a drastic rise in the cost of there home heating oil.
